I'm incredibly impressed with the latest MacBook Pro. I haven't been a daily Mac user for nine years – I switched to Windows and never looked back – but if I needed a powerful laptop today, I'd seriously consider switching teams for these new M1 models. That said, while it's an incredible laptop, it's just a mediocre gaming laptop, and you do still have the more locked-down nature of macOS and those first-gen quirks – like incompatible apps and a rather dangerous factory reset procedure – that may put off some folks. But if you're the kind of person this laptop is targeting, and you check compatibility for the tools you need first, the latest MacBook Pro will hit the mark.

The MacBook Pro 13-inch M1 is not cheap for a laptop, obviously, but if you need a certain level of performance for your photo or video editing, then a cheap laptop is never going to provide it.
